Setting hands on fire

Yesterday in Science we light our hands on fire. We had to first put on safety googles and then get some water and put it on our arms and hands. We then had to scoop up some bubbles and then walk over to the green mat and Mr Stock got his lighter and put it underneath our hands so our hands could light on fire. If we wanted to make the fire stop or we were panicking to much we had to push our hands out like we were giving somebody a high five with our two hands.

Here is a video of what it looked like:

Timing Reactions

Yesterday in Science we got into groups, one person dropped a ruler and the other person had to catch it with their hand/fingers and the record the answers by centimetres on a sheet of paper. I was in a group with 2 people, Ayla and Maddison.

It made it easier to only touch the ruler slightly, it made it more easier if you practice more so you got better.

Using a Microscope

Today in Science lesson we worked on Microscopes. We had to pair up with 1 person instead I paired up with 3 :). We used an onion that we looked at through the microscope. When I looked through the microscope I could see squiggles and lines going in different directions.

Taste and Smell

Yesterday in Science we did an experiment using taste and smell. In a group of 2 or 3 we tried types of foods that we had to taste and name what the food is. I started to find out that once I tried the foods I started to remember the taste of it. We also tried powders and moved them around our mouth and listed the parts were it tastes, sweet, salty, bitter, and sour.

Pocket Rocket

 Pocket Rocket

During the last week of the term in science we did an experiment called pocket. It is a thing in a small container and it pops and shoots up into the air. It is made from vinegar, and baking soda. We put both ingredients in little containers and quickly shut the lid it exploded like rocket. I did the pocket rockets with Riansha. Another group had one of the rockets and it shot up into the air.

Indicators

Indicators

Last week in Science we did a project using Indicator's.

What is an acid?
There are many acids that there are to use, the acid we used for the project Hydrochloride acid and Hydroxide acid.
----------------------
What is an alkali?
An alkali is a base that is soapy like many cleaning products.
-----------------------
What is an indicator?
An indicator is a small tube that changes colour when you put it in an acid.
-----------------------
We poured our substance into the Indicators and mixed it with all the other mixtures we had. The colours in the Indicators changed colours from it mixing into the substance.

Thanks for reading!

Jelly Baby Osmosis

 Jelly Baby Osmosis

What we did was we first got 8 jelly babies in 2 colours ( pink and yellow ) each of us got 2 per each person. We then got our petri dish and filled it up with either sugar/salt and water.

We took our jelly babies and placed to in each dish. There were 3 petri dishes in total for (Maddison, Ayla, and Me). Maddison used Water, Ayla used Salt, and I used Sugar.

Hypothesis : What will happen to the jelly babies in each solution?

Ayla : I think they will all expand but the water one will have the least growth

and the salt will have the most.

Erin : I think the jelly babies all with grow but the water one won't grow as much as the salt and sugar one,I also think the salt one will grow the biggest.

Maddison : I think they will grow but salt will be the smallest and sugar would be the

biggest and they would dissolve in the bath if salt, sugar, water ,i feel like the the jelly babies that

go in salt water will dissolve

The results were :

The salt one was falling apart when we moved it.

The sugar one felt the hardest and most put together but still a bit moshed.

The water one fell apart but not as much as the salt one.

Skittles Observation

Yesterday in period 2 Science we did a experiment using Skittles. The things we used were Warm water, Petri Dish, and Skittles. We all worked in buddies, I worked with Maddison. One of us brang the Petri Dish up to the table to fill it up with some warm water. Then got 5 individual colours of Skittles to put in the water. It was fun to see the Skittles dissolve into the water and spread.

These are some pictures of what the Skittle Experiment looked like.

Bunsen Burner / Boiling Water

Yesterday in period 2 ( Even though I wasn't really at school that day). But we got out the gear and we put it together, then we got the beaker and filled it with cold water, and then we lit the Bunsen Burner. Then let it sit and boil for 5 minutes. We also put a thermometer and took its temperature. Then we had to rinse the beaker and let it sit otherwise it burn our hand.
