FIJI WINS GOLD!

Today in Hurumanu 2 we did some activities about the Olympics. We did some research and wrote about Fiji winning a gold medal at the Olympics in the Rugby sevens.

Olympic Gold was won by the Fiji Rugby Sevens team on 27-12 last evening (NZ time).

The game was against New Zealand who ended up winning Silver Medals.

Fiji’s captain is Jerry Tuawai. He said this win was very special because they had to go into lockdown after Easter. They have not seen their children since.

They spent most of that time shut up in a hostel in Suva, training in a gym they built in a garage. When they were on their way to Japan the Fijian team got stuck on a cargo flight, along with some crates full of fish and these sort of experiences helped them form a very tight group of people which makes for a great big celebration after their superb teamwork.

Here are some images of the winners.

Art

For Art we have been learning about logos. So we first got a piece of paper and drew our own personal logo. Then we got a big piece of paper and put folded it into 4 pieces and repeated our logo till we liked how it looked. After that we traced our logo onto some lino, we then used a carving tool to carve out the pasts we wanted covered with ink. The colours I did was purple, green and black. The purple one I didn't like the most is because it smudged a bit. What makes my logo me is that there are symbols on it for who I like, such as Karl Jacobs.

Setting hands on fire

Yesterday in Science we light our hands on fire. We had to first put on safety googles and then get some water and put it on our arms and hands. We then had to scoop up some bubbles and then walk over to the green mat and Mr Stock got his lighter and put it underneath our hands so our hands could light on fire. If we wanted to make the fire stop or we were panicking to much we had to push our hands out like we were giving somebody a high five with our two hands.

Here is a video of what it looked like:

Hour of Code

 Kia Ora!

In my coding class I have been making a project using coding. We used Hour of Code, Scratch. I mostly used Hour of Code. It is a website that you can play different games on that website. My favourite game on Hour of Code is the Dance Party and Minecraft coding. I played the Minecraft coding the most. I got up to stage 9 in the Minecraft coding game.

Here is all the links for the games:

Timing Reactions

Yesterday in Science we got into groups, one person dropped a ruler and the other person had to catch it with their hand/fingers and the record the answers by centimetres on a sheet of paper. I was in a group with 2 people, Ayla and Maddison.

It made it easier to only touch the ruler slightly, it made it more easier if you practice more so you got better.

Using a Microscope

Today in Science lesson we worked on Microscopes. We had to pair up with 1 person instead I paired up with 3 :). We used an onion that we looked at through the microscope. When I looked through the microscope I could see squiggles and lines going in different directions.
